Well, We did it!! Lakecliff Racquet Club hosted its biggest event to date and it went off fabulously!! The Austin Tennis Academy brought its once-a-year Scholarship Shootout to Lakecliff Racquet Club this year with the goal of raising $50,000 for the Austin Athletic Scholarship Fund (a fund used to subsidize training for kids in the Austin area that could not otherwise afford ATA). The weekend kicked off with a dinner, calcutta and live auction Saturday night at the Austin Tennis Academy (located withing the Spanish Oaks development near 71/620). A good time was had by all, especially Lakecliff members Glen Dagian, Scott Jackson, Mark Sweeney and Page Ragland. Scott and Mark both committed to becoming community partners of the Austin Tennis Academy (minimum $1,000 contribution) and Mark and his wife Julie won the live auction bid for a 7-night trip to Deer Valley, Utah (a contribution of over $10,000 to the Scholarship). The next day, 150 tennis players descended on Lakecliff Racquet Club. We have never had a day like this in our club's short history. 8 Teams of 10 players (5 doubles teams) battled from 10 am until 6 pm on the clay, hard and grass courts to see who would take home first prize. In the end, the Powers' Shots (led by aforementioned Mark Sweeney) edged out Coach Brooks' Team (led by ATA Professional Kendall Brooks) for the title. While the actual winners on the court were the Powers' shots, the real winners were the charities. We raised $90,000!!! This weekend was a rousing success and it could not have happened without the support of Lakecliff Racquet Club and our wonderful members. Thank you all and see you on the courts.
